The combination of Bitcoin/Cashu/Nostr enables the emergence of a global deposit and transfer mechanism that is independent of any existing financial system.
That is what I am trying to build with #nostr #safebox. In studying the systems that existed before international banking, a common method was to accept valuables from a traveller, store in a strong box in one commandery and issue a letter of credit for redemption in another commandery. Any redemptions would be added to the letter of credit, and upon the traveller’s return, they would be redeemed the balance of the valuables, minus the redemptions and an administrative charge.
Of course, trust is a major factor, but it was a better option of having your valuable stolen by brigands on the high road.
