In the interim, nip05 provides a trust bridge/anchor to the legacy world. Quite simply, nip05 proves that you have some control/influence over an established reputable resource that is associated with your npub.
Also, nip05 provides an entry point for those in the legacy world to enter into #nostr and leverage their legacy world reputation. Sure there tradeoffs here, but we are bridging two different worlds here.
So, to trust someone, you need to see a demonstration of
1. Control over their npub (doesn’t necessarily rule out Reply Guy)
2. Control over their web resource (domain website/uri)
3. Control over their DNS record (usually just the provider)
