Issuing certificates and being able to revoke them is the invisible power lever that certificate authorities, government and private sector alike, are trying to hold onto. We’re seeing that play out with mobile drivers licences (mDL) that are also being pitched as your digital identity. The promise is that you can privately hold in your wallet and use it as such, subject to it not being revoked.
My conclusion is that #nostr can be used to break apart the certificate issuance model. A ‘certificate’ is an event signed by an npub. There is no such thing as revocation - you either distrust the npub or rely on another or updated event.
