Autonomy is about generating your own address and name.

Easy to do with #nostr - generate your own npub and publish a kind 0 event. Done.

The simple npub solved some key governance problems of the internet.

Problems:

Public internet addresses are managed centrally. Good luck changing that.

The Domain Name System is delegated at best. Use a friendly registrar - until the rug you.

What the Npub did:

The npub collapsed into a single point of control (nsec): the ability to create an address, sign data, and encrypt messages. Until #nostr came along you had to rely on whimsical authority.

For sure, we still need the internet, but thanks to #nostr we pushed it down the stack of critical importance.

That’s a big deal.
