I believe the ‘killer capability’ (versus feature) for #nostr is the ability to create a trusted internet identifier that can be used to pay me, message me, and which I can sign and post things that others can verify that it’s actually me.
I also believe that NIP-05 is the start, because I can link my npub to a trusted domain name - I can look at and with the help of NIP-05 decide whether I can trust it. This is a superpower that is waiting in the wings to be excercise fully.
Another concept I am excited about is that #nostr could become the ‘social middleware’ as rabble described in his recent post.
Finally, the way that #nostr is architected it is very difficult to weaponize ‘duty of care’ and maintain leverage over your ‘users’. All platforms fall into the trap of caring too much about their users (and not necessarily in their best interest). With #nostr, you unfollow, mute, drop a relay and move on.
